All About Kev

It's weird writing about myself in the third party so I'll just write from my own point of view. I'm Kev Gill, I live in Chorley with my lovely wife, and work in Warrington, and hopefully you'll have worked out by now that my primary 'thing' - my self definition even - is that I'm a photographer. Unfortunately my day job is something hugely boring to do with computers. I was born in 1979, went to local schools and colleges, then attended Lancaster Uni for three years, learning how to do boring things with computers :¬p.

I first became seriously interested in photography sometime in 1998 when my dad gave me his old SLR camera, a Pentax ME. It wasn't working properly, so before long I upgraded to a Pentax P30 which I still have, and which was my main camera for a year or so, before I bought into the Canon EOS system with first an EOS 300, then an EOS 30 which I still have, then I finally went digital with an EOS 20D which I love. Snapshot type pics are usually taken on Canon Powershot G5, which I reckon is the best digital compact ever made. I also still have my Nikon Lite-Touch Zoom 70W (35mm) and my now VERY rarely used Nikon Coolpix 4100. I've also got an old folding Zeiss Ikon 6x4.5cm camera which takes very nice slides when I can be bothered to use it, and a Halina TLR which cost me the princely sum of £8 on eBay recently, but takes lovely 6x6cm images.

I'd say my favourite photographic subjects tend to be landscapes and architecture, especially lake and mountain scenes and cityscapes, with occasional forays into Macro, although recently I've developed more of an interest in portraiture. One of my colleagues does motocross, and I like to go and shoot muddy action shots of the local events, as can be seen on my flickr pages. My favourite photographers are David Noton for his panoramic landscapes, Elliott Erwitt (of Magnum) for his dog pictures, and Charlie Waite, again for his landscape photographs.

Outside of photography I do a lot of driving and I got my motorbike licence a few years ago now. I enjoy reading, and I'm sort of very slowly in the process of writing a fiction book - think Nick Hornby without the talent :¬D. I'm also learning to ride horses, which make bikes feel safe. :o)

If you want to know anything else or just want to get in touch for any reason, feel free to email me though you'll have to jump through the hoops created by my necessarily evil spam filter. If you've received spam mail claiming to be from this domain, it wasn't from me, honest. Sites on this server seem to be frequent spoofing victims, which sucks somewhat.
