  • Jen and Nick's Wedding, May 7th 2005

It should be noted that these wedding photos are straight from the camera and haven't been processed in any way. Most if not all of them will need some processing to look their best, so don't let excessive darkness or lightness or unexpected colour casts put you off.. If you'd like a digital copy of any of the images for yourself, please email me the filename/s you're interested in, and I'll process them to best quality for you. If you want prints, that can be done too, although the digital files I'll send will be more than adequately sized to print up to A4 if you wish to do your own printing. You will need a password to access this page. If you were at the wedding, or feel you should be allowed to see them, please email me. It should also be stated at this point that this is the complete unedited collection of all the photos left on my camera at the end of the day, so some people feature more prominently than others. If there are any pictures that you as the main subject wish me to remove from the site, please contact me and I will do so.

This section is password protected - the username is 'wedding' and the password is (due to length constraints) all three of the children's first names, in lower case, in descending age (oldest to youngest) order, separated by hyphens (dashes) i.e "gordon-dylan-maggie" but with the right names. Or contact me through facebook and ask me :o)

Colour vs Mono

Colour photography when used well has the ability to have a huge impact on the viewer. Just as often however, the colour is a distraction to the shapes and forms that made the photographer capture the image in the first place. In case you're interested, I tend to shoot in colour, as that allows more freedom over the final result. With digital capture I find myself converting many of my images to monochrome, then adjusting the contrast until the finished image represents what I saw in my mind when I pressed the shutter button. There is a place for colour/mono hybrid images too, although this must be done carefully or the effect can look obvious and thus be ruined. Think of the girl in the red coat in Schindler's List. The red tinge was so slight in places it was barely noticeable, but that's why it was so effective.

Photography Primer

Written for a friend, and far from complete, but this takes an absolute beginner's viewpoint in photography (starting with a basic autofocus Canon film SLR) and introduces some concepts. Feel free to have a read. Reproduction of any part is allowed only with explicit permission from me.
